Care
Water conditions
This aquatic plant grows in shallow water, ideally between 5 and 15 cm deep. Submerge the basket or pot about one-third into your pond or water feature. Permanent immersion is preferred for optimal growth.
Light exposure
Place it in full sun or partial shade for vigorous growth. It tolerates partially shaded areas but flowers more abundantly with at least 5 to 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Substrate and planting
Use a substrate rich in organic matter, such as aquatic potting soil or a blend of pond soil with non-enriched compost. Plant in a perforated basket with good drainage to prevent air stagnation around the roots.
Fertilization
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring to encourage growth and flowering. One application per season is usually sufficient, as pond water naturally provides nutrients.
Maintenance and cutting back
Remove dead or damaged leaves regularly to promote water circulation and limit disease. In late autumn, cut back the aerial parts that yellow to prepare the plant for winter dormancy.
Pests and diseases
This plant is generally robust, but may occasionally suffer attacks from small aquatic insects or mold if water stagnates. Ensure good water circulation and regularly aerate your pond to prevent these issues.
