Care
Regular and moderate watering
Keep the substrate moist but never waterlogged: excess water causes rhizome rot. Water approximately twice a week during the growing period, less in winter. Use non-calcareous water if possible, as this fern prefers a slightly acidic pH.
Indirect light and partial shade
Place the plant in filtered light, away from direct sunlight which would scorch the delicate fronds. A location near a north-facing window or light well is ideal. It also tolerates semi-shaded areas indoors.
Well-draining and aerated substrate
Use a rich mixture made of potting soil, peat or coconut fiber, supplemented with perlite or pumice to improve drainage. A neutral to slightly acidic pH promotes optimal growth.
Light and occasional fertilizing
Apply a balanced fertilizer diluted by half, one to two times per month during the growing season (spring-summer). Reduce or stop feeding in autumn and winter. Avoid excess nitrogen which weakens the fronds.
Removal of damaged fronds
Regularly remove yellowed, damaged, or dead fronds at the base using sterile scissors. This practice stimulates the emergence of new fronds and maintains a compact, neat appearance.
Monitoring for pests and rot
Watch for the appearance of spider mites or scale insects, particularly in dry air. Increase ambient humidity through frequent misting to prevent these problems. Root rot remains the main risk if watering is excessive.
