Care
Sunlight
Verbascum pulverulentum requires very sunny exposure for generous flowering and vigorous growth. Place it in full sun for at least 6 hours a day. In shade, the plant will become leggy and produce few flowers.
Soil
This species prefers well-drained soil, even poor or rocky. It dislikes excess moisture and can develop root rot in heavy or waterlogged soil. Improve drainage with coarse sand or gravel if needed.
Watering
Water regularly during the first month after planting to promote root establishment. Once established, the plant is very drought-tolerant and requires little water. During dry periods, occasional watering is sufficient, except in containers where moisture depletes faster.
Fertilizer
Verbascum pulverulentum requires limited fertilizing. Poor soil suits it perfectly and actually promotes better flowering. If needed, balanced fertilizer applied in spring is quite sufficient.
Pruning
Remove spent flowers regularly to extend the flowering period and prevent abundant self-seeding. In late autumn or early spring, cut back dried stems to ground level. This plant doesn't require strict structural pruning.
Diseases and pests
Very robust, Verbascum pulverulentum resists disease well. In excessive moisture conditions, watch for powdery mildew and root rot. Aphids may occasionally affect it. Favor good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to minimize these risks.
