Care
Exposure
Siler montanum prefers sunny to partially shaded exposure, particularly in warm climates where light afternoon shade is beneficial. In mountains or cool regions, full sun encourages more generous flowering. Install the plant in an airy location to limit excessive moisture.
Soil and planting
This herbaceous plant appreciates well-drained, neutral to slightly calcareous, and fresh soils without being waterlogged. Improve heavy soil with sand or gravel to ensure good drainage. Plant in autumn or spring, spacing them 30-40 cm apart.
Watering
Water regularly during the first year of establishment to keep the soil fresh but not soggy. Once well-established, the plant tolerates drought thanks to its deep root system. Reduce watering in winter.
Fertilizer
An application of well-decomposed compost in spring is more than sufficient for this undemanding plant. Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizers which favor foliage at the expense of flowering.
Pruning and cleaning
Remove faded flowers regularly to extend flowering. In autumn, after frost, cut the plant back to ground level. Cleaning up dry leaves in early spring is sufficient.
Pests and diseases
Siler montanum is generally very robust and little affected by pests or diseases. Good drainage and adequate air circulation prevent rot. Watch for slugs and snails in spring, particularly on young leaves.

Siler montanum is a discreet but remarkable plant of alpine bogs and rocky slopes: its small white or pink flowers are pollinated by alpine insects adapted to high-altitude environments. The Siler genus remains little known among gardeners, though it deserves a place in rockeries or wild flower meadows.

Plant in spring or early autumn, avoiding spells of intense heat. Pick a plant with healthy foliage and roots that are not exposed. Best time: March, April, May, September.
