Care
Light
Choose a sunny to partially shaded location. This terrestrial orchid thrives in full light but tolerates partial shade in very hot regions. A spot receiving at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight is ideal for optimal flowering.
Soil
Grow in well-drained, light, calcareous or neutral soil. A mixture rich in organic matter and gravel promotes tuber development. Avoid overly compact soils or those too rich in nutrients, which can encourage rot.
Watering
Water moderately during spring growth and flowering. Once flowering ends and foliage fades (June-July), gradually reduce watering until stopping completely during summer and winter dormancy. Slightly moist soil during the growing season is sufficient.
Fertilizer
Apply very diluted, low-nitrogen fertilizer once or twice during the growing period. These terrestrial orchids are generally not heavy feeders. Excess fertilizer risks promoting foliage at the expense of flowering.
Diseases and Pests
Watch for tuber rot in case of excessive moisture. Slugs and snails can damage young shoots in spring: fine mulch and regular inspections help control them. Good air circulation reduces fungal risks.
