Care
Light exposure
Choose a semi-shaded to sunny location depending on your local climate. In mountainous areas, indirect and filtered light promotes better flowering. Protect the plant from strong winds that could damage the delicate flowers.
Watering
Keep the soil moist but never waterlogged, especially during spring growth and flowering. Drastically reduce watering after flowering when the foliage yellows. In autumn and winter, intervene very little: winter dormancy is essential.
Soil preparation
Choose chalky, well-drained soil enriched with potting soil or leaf compost. Adding gravel or coarse sand improves drainage and recreates mountainous conditions. Plant slightly elevated if your soil tends to stay wet.
Fertilization
Apply very diluted fertilizer in spring when growth resumes, or use a weakly dosed orchid-specific fertilizer. Avoid excess nitrogen which would favor foliage over flowering. Stop all nutrient application after flowering.
Pruning and cleanup
Remove faded flowers to prevent unnecessary seed formation. Let the foliage yellow and disappear naturally in autumn: don't cut it back prematurely. Optionally clean up dry debris on the soil after winter dormancy.
Health prevention
These wild orchids are generally robust in natural conditions. Stay vigilant about excess humidity which can promote rot and fungal issues. Good drainage and sufficient air circulation are enough to prevent most problems. Avoid unnecessary chemical treatments that could weaken the plant.
