Care

Watering

Water regularly during the first year to establish a good root system. Once established, eucalyptus will tolerate dry periods. In pots, maintain moderate humidity without waterlogging. Reduce watering in winter.

Light exposure

Prefer a location in full sun, at least 6 hours daily. Eucalyptus performs best with maximum light and appreciates good air circulation. Avoid overly sheltered areas that slow growth.

Pruning

Pruning is not essential. To create a bushier form or limit height, prune after flowering. Remove diseased or poorly oriented branches. In cool climates, prune lightly before winter.

Fertilizer

A balanced fertilizer application in spring is usually sufficient. If growth slows, apply fertilizer low in nitrogen to avoid soft vegetation. Reduce fertilizing in winter.

Soil and drainage

Eucalyptus prefers well-drained, light, and slightly acidic soil. It tolerates poor and rocky soils. In pots, use a draining mix (potting soil + perlite or gravel). Improve drainage if you have compact clay soil.

Diseases and pests

Seldom affected by disease in ideal conditions. Watch for scale insects indoors or under shelter. Excessive humidity can promote rot. Overwatering is more damaging than underwatering. Ensure good air circulation around the plant.
