Care
Light exposure
Carex pairae thrives in partial shade or light shade. It also tolerates full sun in non-arid regions. Avoid overly intense afternoon sun exposure that may dry out its delicate foliage.
Soil and planting
This sedge appreciates moist, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Plant it in slightly acidic to neutral soil. Adding mature compost at planting time facilitates its establishment.
Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during spring and summer growth. Gradually reduce watering in autumn. Avoid chronic waterlogging, but don't let the substrate dry out completely during hot periods.
Pruning and maintenance
In late winter or early spring, remove dead foliage from the previous year using a comb or light mower. This grass doesn't require regular pruning. Simply clean out dead leaves.
Nutrition
A moderate application of balanced fertilizer in spring is ample. Sedges are not very demanding and generally thrive on soil resources enriched with humus. Avoid excess nitrogen.
Health and prevention
Carex pairae is overall very robust. The most common problems occur with stagnant excess moisture (root rot). Ensure good drainage and rejuvenate aging clumps by dividing them every 3 to 4 years.
