Care

Watering

The elongated sedge appreciates constantly moist to wet conditions. Keep the substrate moist, especially during the growing season (spring-summer), without creating prolonged waterlogging. In dry climates, water regularly; it thrives particularly at the edges of water features or in naturally boggy soil.

Light

Place it in partial shade or dappled shade for optimal development. It tolerates moderate sun but prefers shaded environments, typical of the natural wetland areas where it grows.

Soil and substrate

Moist, acidic to neutral soil rich in organic matter is ideal. Incorporate peat, sphagnum moss peat, or leaf mold to replicate its natural habitat. Improve drainage if water sits for more than a few days.

Pruning and maintenance

Little pruning needed; simply clean up dead or damaged foliage in late winter or early spring. You can cut back the clump lightly before new growth emerges to rejuvenate it.

Fertilizing

No fertilizer is generally necessary if the soil is rich in organic matter. In containers, a light application of balanced fertilizer in spring can support growth.

Diseases and pests

Very robust and rarely affected by disease when given its preferred conditions. The main threats are soil drying out and rot from icy waterlogging in winter.
